Name: The Madras Medical Mission Baby Varun
Relationship: Others
Address: Institute of Cardio Vascular Disease, null
Baby Varun has had surgery for major congenital heart disease. Initially thought to be just a hole in the heart causing heart failure, the pediatric cardiologist at MMM rightly suspected that the coronary arteries were originating from the wrong place - pulmonary artery instead of aorta.
If not diagnosed earlier, the baby could have collapsed at the time of surgery for the ventricular septal defect. Unfortunately, after coming off the ventilator, he developed septicemia and is back on the ventilator.
The father who is a daily wage laborer selling millets for a living pledged his wife's gold and got Rs 2 lakhs on loan to pay for the surgery.
The baby has been in hospital for over 2 weeks and is still very sick. The bill is in excess of 6 lakhs rupees already.
